Adidas is organically embedded with artists across the world. So when the brand decided to open a Shinjuku flagship for its Originals line, they naturally invited five Japanese artists to display their work in the three-story space.
As Creative Director at PUSH Tokyo, I was asked to direct the new location’s announcement film, which I envisioned as part-mood piece, part-profile. Over two days, we shot with painter Keiichi Tanaami, illustrator Yudai Nishi and sculptor Takahiro Koga; digging into their connections to Shinjuku and how the district represents the idea of “being an original.”
We spent the hours between interviews capturing textures in the always-overstimulating area, and created a film with a chaotic energy that is synonymous with Shinjuku. The film launched on YouTube and socials before the opening — building anticipation around the space — and continues to play inside the store to this day.
