Scout Bassett is one-of-one. She grew up in an orphanage in China before being adopted into an American family; she learned to run at 14 and eventually willed herself into a career as a sprinter sponsored by Nike and Citi. But beyond her backstory, Scout is a huge-hearted spirit, charming and infectious to be around. When her sports agent offered to give me a glimpse of Scout’s training regimen as she approached her final Paralympics in 2020, I jumped at the opportunity.
